While I'm writing this post from Chicago where it's technically, Thursday, this is meant to be my night before Thanksgiving post.
Thanksgiving in the US is usually the reminder that the holidays are here and the end of the year is just around the corner. It's this time of year that you usually wonder where the time went and also simultaneously wonder how you're going to get everything done by the end of the year. Before the panic begins, take a moment to pause and reflect on the things that you're grateful for. After all, when the turkey is done, and the family is back to their respective homes, all you have left is yourself and the thoughts that go through your head. Pay homage to them.
Off the top of my head, here's what I'm grateful for:
- A support system that loves me unconditionally and wants the best for me. Whether you're the friend that I can't go a day without talking to or you're the friend that always seems to reach out in the moments where I need you, I love my team. They're patient with me. They push me to be the best me. They celebrate my victories like they're their own. They tell me the things that I'm too afraid to myself. They have my back. You guys are amazing.
- A fairly healthy body. Sure, I could use some more sleep or could make better eating choices, but overall, my body has been kind to me. Or at least kinder to me than I've been to it. I'm sorry--I'm going to try better. I appreciate the strength you give me to get through my day as well as the signals you put out when I've been pushing the limit and need to take a break. I vow to be better to you so that we can get through this thing called life for a long time with a smile on our face.
- Life. You've taught me a lot of lessons. Some I needed to learn, some I didn't want to learn. It hasn't been easy, and it hasn't been pretty, but it's been necessary. You've tested my boundaries, helped me find the silver lining in tough situations, and have brought me simple joys in the smallest actions. I'm still here. I'm still doing this thing. And I have no plans to let you defeat me.
What are you grateful for?
